ARTWORK INFORMATION
Buttonhole, 2022.
Fibre.
Find a distraction for your idle hands. An extension of your clothes, Tiffany Loy’s Buttonhole is a calming landscape for your fingers. Touch, rub and fidget with these tiny patches of tactile textile between moments in your day. Be it while pondering a serious thought or in a boring meeting, these button add-ons help provide a surface for you to return to. Extending the surfaces of our clothes, the Buttonhole slips over any button. It’s tiny surface holds rich layers of sewn thread, creating a dense texture that invites lingering fingers.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tiffany Loy employs a weaver’s approach to sculpture where she explores the fundamental relationships between elements of materiality such as colour, structure and tension. The minuscule details in Loy's work invite viewers to take a closer look and indulge in the act of observing. Often working with experimental processes and materials, her practice draws from techniques in weaving but expands upon it with new possibilities. Her work pushes the expectation of textiles through form and function and make us rethink our associative use for them.
