Hello Stranger,
ARCHIVE
In March 2022, we launched Stranger(’s) Touch, an art project hiding under the guise of a beauty brand. Initiated by artist Daniel Chong and designer Pixie Tan, the project attempts to change the way we view everyday touch.
We interact with an innumerable amount of surfaces in our day-to-day lives. Quiet, ordinary, banal yet familiar, these unnoticed surfaces are also the ones that we subconsciously come back to. More often than not, these surfaces are designed to fit our grasp.
From soaps that are shaped like used ones by Daniel Chong, gently shaped bookends hand-cast in cement by Phoebe Zoe Ho, to hand-built terracotta cups that poke and prod by Tricia Lim, Stranger('s) Touch brought together a series of commissioned art objects centred on the idea of touch. We also commissioned a slippery and soapy performance by Chew Shaw En and Ang Kia Yee on one weekend. These objects hope to infiltrate the daily space as small reminders to appreciate the poetics of everyday touch.
All objects were available to be browsed online and experienced first-hand in our physical pop-up, nestled in the cosy attic of Crane at Arab Street.
