ARTWORK INFORMATION
between a stick and a sore spot, 2022.
Polymer clay and aluminium
.

Relieve your tension through these strange limbs masked as massage sticks. Moses Tan’s between a stick and a sore spot taps onto the uncanny, reminding one of curved appendages or artificial fingers. Feel the imagined flesh curve along your skin as they work your way through your pressure points. Let their surfaces rub gently against your muscles as these contemporary massage sticks balance the space of a strange touch. Taking reference from massage sticks, these objects aim to do more than relieve stress. Activated through touch, these fleshy massagers perturb the quality of touch we are so used to, almost giving life to the inanimate tools.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Moses Tan is an artist whose work explores histories that intersect with queer theory and politics while looking at melancholia and shame as points of departure. His practice stretches across a range of media from drawing, video and installation. His interest lies in the use of subtlety and codes in the articulation of narratives. Through the use of these motifs and metaphors, his works figure the body displaced or uncanny. Often more emotive than literal, his figurations suggest more than meets the eye.
